Does this mean the controller has failed?
Not necessarily.
In many cases, your mobility scooter is doing exactly what it was designed to do — protecting itself from excessive heat.
What Does the Controller Do?
The controller is often described as the brain of the mobility scooter.
It controls the motor, monitors battery power, processes throttle inputs and communicates with many of the scooter's electrical components. During normal operation it generates heat, especially when delivering high power to the motor.
On hot summer days, this heat combines with the high ambient temperature, making it much harder for the controller to cool itself.
Can Hot Weather Damage the Controller?

How Can You Prevent Overheating?

Early morning and evening rides place much less thermal stress on the electronics.

Lower power demand means lower controller temperature.

Parking in the shade can make a significant difference to battery and controller temperatures.

When Is It More Than Just Heat?

- Shows the same error immediately after switching on
- Displays errors even when completely cold
- Repeatedly cuts out after only a few seconds
- Does not recover after cooling
then the problem may not be heat related.
