What Mobility Scooter? The T‑Sport YL‑996 Gets a Serious Independent Road Test
Choosing the right mobility scooter can be difficult, especially when most reviews simply repeat the manufacturer’s specifications without showing how the scooter performs in real life. That is why we were delighted to see the T‑Sport YL‑996 put through a proper independent road test by Bob and the team at The Medusa Project.
Their goal is to review mobility scooters in the same engaging and informative style as What Car? and Top Gear—but from the perspective of people who are themselves disabled and genuinely understand what mobility scooter users need.
A Lightweight Scooter Designed for Everyday Travel
Weighing only around 19 kg, including the battery, the T‑Sport YL‑996 is an exceptionally lightweight folding mobility scooter. It can be folded quickly, lifted into most car boots and opened again within seconds.
Despite its compact size and low weight, the YL‑996 offers an impressive combination of practical features:
- Pneumatic tyres for a smoother and more comfortable ride
- Compact folding design for easy transportation
- Bright front and rear lights
- Comfortable seat with armrests
- Removable lithium battery
- Powerful and responsive performance
- Suitable for everyday pavement and travel use
Pneumatic tyres are particularly unusual on such a lightweight boot scooter. The air-filled tyres help absorb bumps and vibrations, making the YL‑996 more comfortable on uneven pavements and typical outdoor surfaces.
A Genuine Independent Review
In the video, the YL‑996 is examined and tested independently. Bob shares his honest impressions of its design, portability, comfort and real-world performance.
The scooter is not simply displayed in a studio or described from a specification sheet—it is taken outside and properly tested on the road. This gives potential users a much clearer idea of what they can expect when using it in everyday life.
We were especially pleased to hear how impressed Bob was by the combination of low weight, pneumatic tyres, lighting and overall performance.
Bonus SCOTE‑48350 Test-Track Race
The video also includes a fun bonus feature, with Adrian racing the powerful T‑Sport SCOTE‑48350 around The Medusa Project’s test track.
With its twin motors, three-wheel design and strong acceleration, the SCOTE‑48350 provides a very different riding experience from the lightweight YL‑996—and it certainly makes the bonus lap entertaining to watch!
